Oil Spill Reaches Matagorda Island

Barge Accident Saturday, March 22, a barge, owned by Houston-based Kirby Inland Marine Corp, was traveling the Houston Ship Channel when struck by a ship. The barge was transporting about 924,000 gallons of oil. The unfortunate result was an estimated 168,000 gallons of oil leaking into Galveston Bay. Emergency crews worked to contain the oil, and […]

2013 Annual Lighted Boat Parade

Several boats participated in the Port O’Connor Chamber of Commerce Lighted Boat Parade, despite the cold temperature. The parade started at Froggies and ended at the judges tent in Caracol. To all of the participants, thank you. This is a wonderful annual event and a great way to kick-off the holiday.
